- What does ‘Habari’ mean?
Habari Post was started by a father and son team: Steve and Aaron Winters in January 2008, who also founded Language Crossing. The site was developed with the talent of Tunisian-born Salma Ben Mahmoud.
What are you trying to achieve?
We aim to raise the level of debate around topics related to the Middle East. Specifically, we are looking for:
- What’s on your mind? We want to know what is true for you in your own experience on these issues.
- Civilized discussion. We encourage you to ask questions and participate in discussions. We ask that you respect the diverse views and opinions that you will encounter on Habari Post.
- Constructive ideas for progress. We are unlikely to publish stories that blatantly bash people or governments. We want Habari Post to be a stabilizing force for the Middle East and will remove stories from the site if formally requested to do so by government officials.
Which countries/territories do you include in the "Middle East"?
We recognize that there are many varying definitions of the "Middle East" and we broadened the coverage of countries and territories on Habari Post. We did this to make Habari Post a resource to people who are looking for information from countries in or near the region of the Middle East.
Habari is a casual greeting in the Swahili language that roughly translates into “What’s the news?”
