FAQ - Post a Story

How do I post stories on Habari Post?

You can post a story by using the Post Story form. When you submit a story, please remember to include appropriate links. Also, you will speed up the review process if you use a clear and specific subject line.

Before you submit a story, please take a minute to make sure it's not a duplicate of a story we've posted already. Check the front page and make sure it hasn't already been posted. If it's not breaking news, you might also run a search to see if it's something that might have been posted on a previous day.

Where do I send corrections or updates to previous stories?

The best way to submit a follow up posting is to use the Post Story form just as if you were submitting any other posting to Habari Post. However, if you have an update about a situation which has changed since the last time it was mentioned on Habari Post, please include a link to the previous story to which you're referring, rather than merely alluding to it.

Can I email you a story to be posted?

Yes. Please include the same information you would if you were posting it through the online form. It is preferable and faster to use the online form in order to ensure the story gets to the right person as quickly as possible. To post a story by email, use this email address.

Can I post a story anonymously?

Yes! In fact it may be a smart move if you are writing about a sensitive or controversial subject in your country.

To post anonymously, make sure you are logged out of Habari Post and use the Post Story form.

Why didn’t you post my story?

Every day our editors go through the stories we have received, and try to select the most interesting, timely, and relevant ones to post to the homepage. Here are some of the reasons we don’t post stories:
- Badly worded subjects
- Broken or missing URLs
- Confusing or hysterical sounding write up
- It might be an old story
- It might just be a busy day and we've already posted enough stories
- Someone already submitted your story

I want to write an editorial. What should I do?

Depending on how in depth you plan to go, you might want to send us a synopsis of your idea (put the text 'Proposed Editorial’ in the subject). That way I can tell you if it is something we would consider posting before you write the whole thing.

I want to write a book review. What should I do?

Make sure the book hasn't been reviewed on Habari Post before, or at least anytime lately. Also, take a look at current book reviews on Habari Post to get ideas of how to write it. When you're ready to post it, you can do so as you would post any other story on Habari Post, using the Post Story form.

How do you verify the accuracy of Habari Post stories?

We don't. You do. If something seems outrageous, we might look for some corroboration, but as a rule, we regard this as the responsibility of the person posting the story and the audience. This is why it's important to read comments. You might find something that refutes, or supports, the story in the comments.

How are the Habari Post Sections created?

Sections on Habari Post are developed as we receive stories. Some topics become popular and warrant a section of their own. In other words, the Sections are determined by the stories that you, the reader, decide to post.
