Earth Hour Cuts Energy Use in Dubai

"Earth Hour" is a rolling global voluntary one-hour blackout on March 29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Hour). In some places people participated but didn't really affect electricity use (http://www.stuff.co.nz/4457620a11.html). But in Dubai there was a significant reduction in electricity demand. During the hour that people turned off unneeded lights and appliances, and some buildings cut exterior lighting, Dubai's power use dropped by about 2.5%. According to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority about 100,000 kWh of electricity was saved, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 60 tonnes.
