Americans focus on whether the "surge" has decreased the number of assaults and homicides in Baghdad because this fact is likely to determine the outcome of the upcoming presidential election. Most Iraqis look at progress in terms of the condition of their daily lives - access to jobs, electricy and sanitation for example. The source of this video suggests that most Iraqis feel that they are worse off today than a year ago. I'm sure we will hear much more of this as the democrats gear up to take on McCain.
